Fall 2003: Played in three fall tournaments for the Green Wave in his first semester. Posted a low 18-hole score of three-over par 75 at the Country Club ofLouisiana Intercollegiate in Baton Rouge. Also recorded his top 54-hole score of 232 at that event. Averaged 78.7 strokes per 18 holes in the fall. Named to the Tulane Scholar-Athlete list with a grade point average above 3.0. Prep: Came to Tulane after an impressive prep career that included five Top 20 finishes in American Junior Golf Association events in the summer of 2002. Notched a fifth-place finish at the AJGA tournament in New Orleans played at English Turn. On the strength of a first-round 66, tied for 13th at the AJGA Chrysler Classic in Greensboro, N.C. in a tournament considered one of the AJGA's "majors" Claimed the District individual title, and led his high school team to the state championship as a junior with a sixth-place finish at the state meet. Squad finished second in the state his senior year when he tied for 12th in the state championship. Four-year letterwinner for one of the largest high school golf programs in the nation. Two-time Rotary Club Student of the Year who was also honored for his community service participation. Member of the National Honor Society Personal: Born July 29, 1984 in Houston, Texas. Son of William and Patricia Gutknecht. His older sister plays collegiate golf at SMU in Dallas. Began playing golf at the age of 11. |
